Meet Our Excos
Clarisse Poon
Founder and President
As a F4 student at SPCC, I am a passionate and active volunteer.
COVID opened my eyes to the dark side of society, allowing me to see the terrifying situations of street sleepers and to find out how underprivileged students heavily lack educational opportunities.
Recognizing the opportunities I have had to develop both my academic and extracurricular interests and how the poor are suffering, I hope to advocate and raise awareness for those neglected by our society. This prompted me to set up “Light Their Rights HK” — to help the underprivileged through visits, workshops, and beyond.
Ultimately, I hope to bring positive change to those in need, and join hands with others to create a caring society.
Agnes Chiu
Co-founder and Vice President
I am currently a G10 student from Canadian International school. I’m thrilled to be the Vice President of Light Their Rights.
Being the Vice President is about leading the team and guiding the members at the same time, and leadership has always been a big part of me.
My common interests are mostly sports-related, including basketball, netball, volleyball and badminton. At the same time, I have a creative mind as therefore enjoy drawing and writing poems as well.
Amid the pandemic, I hope to help those in need from the poverty line and actively spread help and love to them through volunteering.
“The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.” — Proverbs 22:9.
Eunice Liu
Vice President
I have always been passionate about serving the community and those around me.
My passion to serve can be seen through my dedication in Light Their Rights. Having been a member since form 1, I joined most events and helped with planning and management. On top of that, I actively participate in external volunteering opportunities to broaden my horizons as well as groom my leadership and communication skills.
Other than volunteering, I am an avid debater who loves to explore different social issues through debating.
Serving was never one-sided for me, but instead, full of interactions between the served and serving. In the near future, I hope to have more opportunities to contribute and serve the society both inside and outside of Light Their Rights.
Calissa Poon
Secretary
Hi! I am Calissa, a secondary 2 student at Diocesan Girl's School. Since a young age, I am privileged to have different opportunities to develop my many ECAs like piano and debate.
I have always been a keen believer in the ripple effects of volunteering -- my volunteering journey has started since a young age, and starting from P5, I have been assisting Light Their Rights with events planning, community outreach etc. This allowed me to grow while contributing to the community.
In the near future, I wish to further develop myself by exploring different aspects of volunteering (e.g. other underprivileged communities) to broaden my horizon.
"You think you're just a small drop in the ocean...but look at the ripple effect one drop can make!" Never underestimate your ability to serve the community because it's not about your ability, but about your heart and willingness to serve.
Amanda Lam
Event Director
I’m Amanda, a form four student at St Paul’s Co-Educational College. Serving the community has always been an integral part of my life which brings me immense joy and satisfaction that is beyond imagination.
As a teenager, I’ve always been intrigued by social issues. Hong Kong is a city known for its remarkable wealth and yet, there is still a high level of poverty and inequality. Through joining Light Their Rights, I hope to be able to physically reach out to those in need and bridge the gap of the underprivileged in our society. I strongly believe that ‘No act of kindness, no matter how small, is wasted’. Through actively participating in community service and projects, I aim to devote my time towards creating a more equitable society for all individuals. I am more than delighted to contribute to a positive change and advocate for social equality in our society.
Christy Heidi Lie
Event Director
I am currently a Year 10 student at International Christian School. I have often been reminded of the immeasurable blessings I’ve received -- a supportive family, an abundance of resources, an open-ended education etc. With the awareness of how much God has gifted me, my family helped me recognize the importance of giving back to the community.
Volunteering at Light Their Rights as an ambassador leader, and now an events coordinator, has truly allowed me to connect with those who are in desperate need of support. I hope to train valuable aspects of leadership, communication, organization and service whilst continuing to develop my passion of serving others in every circumstance.
As one who takes interest and joy in singing, writing, and acting, I also wish to incorporate events and activities as such within future LTR events, shedding light and inspiring others to experience the beauty of performing and literary arts.
Bernice Jim
Event Director
As a Grade 10 student studying at the Canadian International School of Hong Kong, service has definitely allowed me to understand what can be achieved when passion meets purpose.
I joined Light Their Rights in 2021, and suffice to say it has definitely changed my point of view regarding the underprivileged in Hong Kong. A lot of memorable events I have participated in - homeless walks, educational workshops held in various areas of HK, and low-income family visits have opened my eyes to the problems majority of the disadvantaged society in our city face.
When I’m not volunteering, you’ll find me MUNing, deadline fighting and playing badminton. I look forward to see the impact we can achieve as a team in the following years!
Claudia Loh
Event Director
I'm currently a Y10 student in Po Leung Kuk Choi Kai Yau School. I’m proud to be a debater and a scholar; my privilege to learn is not lost on me and I have discovered many marginalized communities. Likewise, debating has opened my eyes to underprivileged groups in society, and has since left me with a longing to alleviate other’s suffering in whatever way I can. Through these experiences, I hope I can do my part in society to help the underprivileged through hands-on teaching and sharing of my experiences, and to do what little I can to spread warmth and love in a cold and unfeeling society that otherwise rejects the vulnerable populations. Through joining “Light Their Rights”, I hope I can harness my desire for helping people into something bigger and more tangible.
Anabelle Wong
Marketing Director
With a strong passion for creativity and an eye for visual aesthetics, I work as the marketing director of Light Their Rights. I am dedicated to using my skills and experiences to support the mission of LTR, and to help pave the way to a better tomorrow for the underprivileged.
Additionally, I am an active scout. Through scouting, I have enhanced my leadership skills, developed a stronger sense of teamwork, and learned the importance of community engagement. I have also had the opportunity to contribute to various volunteer activities, including assisting with local community projects and participating in hands-on environmental conservation initiatives. These volunteering experiences have provided me with a deeper understanding of the needs faced by communities. I hope to make a positive impact on the lives of those around me and make a difference in the lives of individuals.
